Pure ammonium sulfate comes as colorless rhombohedral crystals, while the industrial products are white to light yellow crystals. The aqueous solution is acidic. It is insoluble in alcohol, acetone and ammonia. It is hygroscopic and solidifies into lumps after absorbing moisture.
